Handmade Kitchen Accessories

If you haven't already, please do take a peak at some of SCAD's Community Education classes offered throughout the proceeding winter months. If I may suggest the workshop I am teaching, Handmade Kitchen Accessories, I assure you it will be a delightful and crafty Saturday. Please read on for more details regarding this workshop! If this doesn't strike your fancy please click here for other options.

If you do decide to sign up for my workshop....!

Participants will experiment with different fabric piecing techniques and will walk away with their own complimentary napkin, coaster, and placemat sets. Fabric is provided, but you are welcome to bring your own to work with. Basic sewing skills are necessary and you are asked to bring your own sewing machine.

Crafty Boys

These pictures are from over a year ago, but I just found them on my camera and thought they would be fun to post. I went to a huge art exhibit in Miami last September and these guys were knitting this long pink scarf. The boat picture above is a picture of a picture---if that makes any sense. At the actual art exhibition both guys were hanging out knitting this scarf. Gotta love crafty boys. I wonder how long this pretty pink scarf is now...?

Current mini quilt I'm trying to finish....

The Help

For any of you in search of a new book to dive into "The Help" is an absolute must. My mom just sent it to me from Indiana and I can't put it down. The setting is 1962 Jackson, Mississippi right in the midst of the civil rights movement. It specifically focuses on the lives of three courageous woman. That's all I'm telling---go get it!

Small Quilt

This small quilt is approximately 36" x 36". It is the perfect gift for anyone having a baby or for someone who already has one. The color palette consists of mostly pinks, browns, and golds. There is no traditional batting or binding, but sweet little yarn ties. It is made with modern, vintage, and hand embroidered fabric. It is a great blanket to carry on the go because it folds up nicely and doesn't take up a lot of space.

If you are interested in purchasing this little gem please take a peak at my etsy site! Have a fabulous day~

Before & After

Check out my do-it-yourself job on this old wooden chair purchased from @home many many months ago. A little gray spray-paint and cute cushion was the trick. I can't take credit for the cushion, it came with the chair, but it definitely looks cuter on the chair with a little added color.

Spools of Thread

I took this photograph at the SCAD Atlanta campus. I didn't catch the artist's name, but I love all of the old wooden spools of thread here.

Screen-Printing Workshop

I constructed some very cute pillows for my newly reupholstered couch---complete with zippers to take the pillow form out. I used screen-printing samples from the workshop and the backing of the pillows are made from the same fabric the couch is reupholstered in.

A few pieces from the Extra Credit Parent workshop that my co-worker and I taught this summer!

Before & After

I had this couch reupholstered (not by me.....I wish!) for $500 + the cost of fabric. I found some great fabric at a local upholstery shop for $5 a yard. My upholsterer told me to purchase at least 15 yards for the job. There was a little leftover for pillows!

Take a look at my craigslist's purchase for $70.

MassArt Fibers Dept.

Just got back from a long weekend in Boston and enjoyed every minute of it. While visiting, I got to tour the Fibers Dept. at MassArt. It was great to see another school's studio space and especially their Fibers Dept!
